Pew Forum Quiz

I just finished taking a 15 question quiz at The Pew Forum, where those infamous test scores embarrassed the Christian world by their lack of basic knowledge.

I gotta admit, I have mixed feelings about the results.  I got a 93%, 14 out of 15.  (Yea, I don't know what the heck "The First Great Awakening" is.)  I'm glad I did quite well--I outperformed 97% of the tested sample. I'm not impressed with myself because the questions were very elementary. I'm discouraged because this means that on average, many Americans, regardless what they believe, don't know basic facts about religion. I'm not that discouraged, because the questions were so general they don't really indicate anything, other than maybe people don't know much about religions other than their own.

Click here to take the quiz yourself...and let me know how you did!

well you did better than I did. I missed 2! What's scary if I read the results correctly athesists and agnostics scored rather high. I will offer this disclaimer, I am not a big fan of trusting results of surveys. Depending on the population who took the survey, the results could be biased. What I will say is that if this trend of high scores from non believers is true of the wider population, it begs the point that head knowledge is not much without faith!

Amen sister. I'm pretty unconvinced that knowing whether or not Hindus worship Shiva or not has any real relevance, except to a Hindu.

I got two wrong. One was "According to rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court, is a public school teacher permitted to read from the Bible as an example of literature, or not?" I answered no because I am Canadian and I didn't know so I just picked the answer that seemed right given the current American anti-religion administration.

I also got the last question wrong - have never heard of the Great Awakening so I just picked one answer.
